A U.S. postal employee thought it would be easier to throw away mail that included Republican Party campaign flyers to soothe his sore shoulder than to actually deliver them.

Rickey Krueger, a mail carrier for the Neenah, Wisconsin post office, was convicted last week in U.S. District Court of “mishandling the mail.”

Krueger agreed to plead guilty, quit his job and pay a fine of $750, the Green Bay Gazette reports.

He was accused of throwing away 879 pieces of mail for two Republicans – state Assembly candidate Mike Rohrkaste and U.S. congressional candidate Glenn Grothman – five days before the election.

Both won the November election with 57 percent of the vote.

Right Wisconsin notes Krueger had a “sore shoulder” and was “overwhelmed” by the volume of mail. Instead of delivering it, he threw them all in an apartment complex dumpster.

One of Rohrkaste’s supporters found them a short time later.

Krueger insisted he had never done it before and denied any political motive.

Federal investigators claimed it was merely a “bad decision” on Krueger’s part and “there was no indication that it was politically motivated.”

He could have faced six months in prison and $5,000 in fines.
