Chelsea Clinton wasn’t lying: Her mother is making curtailing the Second Amendment a top priority.
In a newly released audio recording that was likely obtained at a private event, Hillary Clinton could be heard savaging the National Rifle Association and gun rights.
“So I’m going to speak out. I’m going to do everything I can to rally people against this pernicious, corrupting influence of the NRA,” Clinton could be heard saying.
“And we’re going to do whatever we can. I’m proud when my husband took them on and we were able to ban assault weapons but he had to put a sunset on it so, 10 years later, of course, Bush wouldn’t agree to reinstate them.
“We’ve got to go after this,” Clinton vowed.
“Here again, the Supreme Court is wrong on the Second Amendment and I am going to make that case every chance I get.”
The location and date of the recording are unknown. It sounds like an intimate room and was likely recorded on a cell phone or similar device. The Republican National Committee, which posted the clip on YouTube, has not provided additional details.
Chelsea Clinton hinted at her mother’s intentions while speaking to a group in Maryland last month.
“It matters to me that my mom also recognizes the role the Supreme Court has when it comes to gun control. With Justice Scalia on the bench, one of the few areas where the Court actually had an inconsistent record relates to gun control,” Clinton said, the Free Beacon reported. “Sometimes the Court upheld local and state gun control measures as being compliant with the Second Amendment and sometimes the Court struck them down.”
She added, “So if you listen to Moms Demand Action and the Brady Campaign and the major efforts pushing for smart, sensible and enforceable gun control across our country, disclosure, have endorsed my mom, they say they believe the next time the Court rules on gun control, it will make a definitive ruling.”
“So it matters to me that my mom is the only person running for president who not only constantly makes that connection but also has a strong record on gun control and standing up to the NRA.”
