After taking office just a few days ago, London’s newly sworn-in mayor is already trying to influence America’s presidential election.

And the city’s first Muslim mayor has his candidate: Hillary Clinton.

Sadiq KhanIn an email to supporters, Clinton campaign Deputy Communications Director Christina Reynolds writes:

Earlier this week, Sadiq Khan, the new mayor of London, made history when he became the first Muslim elected mayor of a major European capital.

Donald Trump has made banning Muslims from entering the United States a founding principle of his campaign — but says not to worry, he’d give the new London mayor a free pass into the country.

Khan doesn’t want an exemption. He wants us to win:

“This isn’t just about me — it’s about my friends, my family, and everyone who comes from a background similar to mine, anywhere in the world. Donald Trump’s ignorant view of Islam and could make both our countries less safe — it risks alienating mainstream Muslims around the world and plays into the hands of the extremists.”

It’s not every day that the mayor of London endorses a candidate for president of the United States (or condemns her rival)!

Khan, like all of us, knows that Trump’s election wouldn’t just endanger our country. He could empower a whole new movement of hatred and violence.

Khan tells NBC he wants to “educate” Donald Trump on Islam.

“I want Donald Trump to come to London so I can introduce myself to him as a mainstream Muslim, very, very comfortable with Western liberal values, but also introduce him to hundreds of thousands, dare I say millions of Muslims in this country, who love being British, love being Western.”

“I want to educate Donald Trump. I want to show him that you can be Muslim and be Western,” Khan said, who was sworn in one week ago.
