When Mike Brzezinski called on Debbie Wasserman Schultz to resign as chair of the DNC, she asked Chuck Todd to intervene laying bare the cabal between the media and the Democratic Party.

On May 18, the “Morning Joe” co-host denounced the party’s treatment of Hillary Clinton rival Bernie Sanders.

“This has been very poorly handled from the start,” Brzezinski said, according to Mediaite. “It has been unfair and they haven’t taken him seriously, and it starts quite frankly with the person we just heard speaking. It just does. You know that.”

“If the party I was a member of treated me like this, rigged the debate process, I’d say go straight to hell, I’m running as an independent,” Joe Scarborough added.

“She should step down,” Brzezinski said, “She should step down.”

Later that day, Wasserman Schultz emailed MSNBC host Chuck Todd in a message titled, “Chuck, this must stop.”

“Chuck, see below. I would like to discuss this with you today,” she wrote. “Can you reach out to Luis to schedule a call? Thanks. DWS.”

She was referencing a Politico piece reporting on Brzezinski’s statements.

“Avail anytime between 1130 and 430,” Todd wrote back about one hour later.

One minute later, Wasserman Schultz replied, “Thank you. Luis will reach out to schedule. DWS.”

Todd and DNC spokesman Luis Miranda then exchanged emails to apparently coordinate an attempt to get Brzezinski to stop criticizing Wasserman Schultz.

Miranda then sent Todd a series of links to dispute the claim that the Democratic primary process was rigged against Sanders.

“Hey Chuck, per our conversation earlier today, I’d appreciate it if you passed along the following to the Morning Joe team,” Miranda wrote.

“I understand Joe and Mika will say whatever they’re going to say in terms of opinion, but at a minimum they should consider the facts on some of the key allegations they’re making.

“Between us, You think the call is a good idea?” Todd asked Miranda.

“Not necessarily. If Mika just doesn’t like her, I’m not sure it’s worth either of their time. I’ve lowered her expectations, but don’t know. If you think Mika is set in stone I’m happy to kill it,” Miranda replied.

“I don’t know,” Todd wrote in response. “She can do 180s after these calls. It can’t get worse.”

Other emails show more DNC staffers and NBC employees exchanged emails to arrange the call.
